The Black Mangrove tree is scientifically known as Avicennia germinans. In Japan, it is found in the southernmost islands, specifically south of Amami-Oshima, thriving in the brackish waters on the inland side of mangrove forests. During the summer, it produces flowers that give way to viviparous seeds in early autumn. These mature viviparous seeds detach from the plant's stem, either embedding themselves directly into the ground or dispersing through ocean currents. Once carried by the tides, these viviparous seeds eventually settle in crevices such as crab burrows, where they take root and embark on a new life journey.
