Water shells are named "water shells" because their appearance resembles the kanji character for "water." In Okinawa, the water character shell has been treated as a magical tool for a long time. There is a legend that a bad thing is sucked into the mouth before it enters the house, and it is said that it is better to hang it in front of the house with the mouth facing up. It seems that the water-shaped shells were hung in the houses from ancient times in the Ryukyu Islands.
